Relational Therapy & Recovery

Most people don’t arrive at therapy with a clean explanation of what’s wrong. They arrive knowing something isn’t working. Something in the relationship feels off. The same painful patterns keep repeating. Their sense of self has slowly eroded after years of loving someone who made them question their own reality.

That’s the territory this practice was built for.

Life Transitions Counseling was founded on the understanding that the most painful and disorienting experiences people navigate are almost always relational. Not just who we are in relationships with, but how we learned to be in them. What we were taught to tolerate. What we mistake for love. What happens to our sense of self when someone slowly dismantles it over time.

After more than 26 years of clinical practice, I’ve come to believe that recovery is not about fixing what is broken in you. It is about understanding the patterns that shaped you, the attachment dynamics formed in your earliest relationships, and the ways those patterns continue to influence the relationships you choose today.

Areas of Focus

This practice specializes in relational therapy and recovery, including:

  • Emotionally abusive and coercively controlling relationships
  • Addictive relational patterns
  • The grief of leaving someone you still love
  • Attachment wounds and relational trauma
  • Rebuilding trust in yourself and your instincts
  • Chronic relational confusion and emotional dysregulation
  • Infidelity, disconnection, and entrenched toxic dynamics

I work primarily with adults individually and, on a more limited basis, with couples navigating high-conflict relational dynamics and the emotional fallout that often accompanies them.

I am also the creator of The ISLAND Method™: A Framework for Relational Recovery, a structured clinical model designed to help clients understand the patterns underlying emotionally addictive and destabilizing relationships and move toward lasting recovery with greater clarity and self-awareness.

If You’re Here

If you’ve been wondering whether what you experienced was really “that bad,” why you cannot seem to move on, or why the relationships you choose keep leading you back to the same painful place, you are not alone.

And if you are someone who knows you are trapped in an emotionally addictive relationship and desperately needs help finding your way back to yourself, you are in the right place.
